I cannot help but feel there is something inherently wrong with a billing system that promotes that type of activity. I am a small firm man but I have worked with people who previously worked in large firms where they are not allowed to log off in the evening unless their time sheets show 4 or 5 hours of chargeable time a day ..This view is generally supported by the number of work emails I get at night , mainly from fee earners who work for the larger firms , after 9pm . Often these fee earners still send emails whilst on holiday because , presumably , they cannot stand coming back to deal with a shedload of untouched work .I suspect a lot have no life outside work as this must make ordinary relationships and outside interests impossible. I seriously have to wonder who benefits from this. The tyranny of time recording!
