All this means is "business as usual".

JAC panels for senior competitions are staffed by senior Judges. The overwhelming majority of senior Judges were barristers. Hence in applications for those competitions "merit" is only ever seen in those who practice at the Bar.

Even assuming that the JAC understands what it is that we solicitors do they never rate it as being close to what barristers do in terms of the elusive "merit" criterion, hence we will never make any impact in these competitions.
