It's sometimes hard not to be just a wee bit jealous of counsel. Yes they work long hours, but generally (in my field at least) they tend to out earn us two or threefold, they tend to cosset themselves in layers of tradition that insulate them from having to take phone calls, they don't have to deal with clients in the same way we do (and are never at their beck and call as we are) and they get to do the fun stuff at the sharp end ("I put it to you that everything you have just told the court is a lie..."). Once its all over and the case is won, generally in the public eye it's them what won it, not us.

If I had my time again, I think I would probably have gone to the bar. I love what I do, but sometimes I think the grass is greener over there.
