On 31 July 2013 I sent the following letter:

Dear Gill

Court security

I am writing to you in your capacity as `delivery director’ for the North West region, having obtained your name from the courts service website. If you’re the wrong person I apologise, and perhaps you could re-direct this letter to the appropriate person.

The reason I’m writing is that I’m a frequent visitor to both the CJC and to other courts in the North West, mainly Preston.

The one constant in every court is the hassle involved in getting through security. On more than one occasion people at Preston have been queued outside the court building, often in hostile weather.

I fully appreciate the need for security, but many of the visitors are lawyers like myself, who use the courts frequently.

It has therefore occurred to me that it would greatly speed up the flow and make life generally easier for all court visitors if regular visitors could be issued with a pass, enabling them to avoid the security procedures.

I understand that the courts service is strapped for cash, but I have not the slightest doubt that lawyers would be more than happy to pay sufficient to cover the cost of providing this facility. I know I would, and so would every other lawyer I’ve mentioned it to.

However, it may not involve any significant expense at all. I assume the court employees don’t have to go through the security checks every morning, so all that would need to be done would be to treat pass holders as honorary employees, and let them have the same arrangements for entering the building as employees.

I look forward to receiving your comments.

Yours sincerely

Michael Loveridge"

I suppose 6 years isn't bad by MoJ standards!
