I have been critical of the SRA before but I can’t help but think they have got it right here.

Whilst the write-up is in a sympathetic tone, it could equally be stated:
1. He has conspired with a client to avoid paying a fee due to HMG; and
2. His ‘altruism’ appears to be limited to other people’s money as there is no suggestion in the article he acted pro-bono.

It is sad that such an experienced solicitor has done this in the latter years of a career but unless there is something else not stated in the article I cannot see he left the SRA much choice.
