The BRI Trojan Horse will use Chinese money to push smaller countries into debt and then into economic servitude to Communist China. The entire exercise has military rather than economic ramifications. And while the 'one country two systems' arrangement which China agreed with the UK is being reneged on by Beijing and dismantled and when democracy protestors are being jailed, HK has a communist gun to its head. Western companies are leaving and eventually so will law firms as western trade with China is shut down altogether. China views the West and the US as its enemies. For China, the Cold War never ended. Capitalism is the means to undermining the West and dominating it. For all of these reasons, BRI is going nowhere. When the money runs out - and it will - no country will be at all interested in having Chinese military autobahns going their countries, especially Russia and the former Soviet bloc. For many countries, China was, within living memory, an enemy which had to be resisted militarily. We are returning to those times again.
