Beginning in the City, a round of promotions and appointments at the London offices of US firms.



Shearman & Sterling recruits Lois Moore to its mergers and acquisitions (M&A) group and Ian Harvey-Samuel to its structured finance team, both from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. The US firm also promotes James Comyn to partner in M&A.



O’Melveny & Myers promotes Paul Loynes and Solomon Wifa in its private equity and M&A team in London.



Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw promotes nine to partner in London as part of a programme of 39 promotions worldwide: in corporate, Kate Ball-Dodd, Jonathan Crawford, Paul de Bernier, Lauri-Lynn Pursall and Henrietta Walker; in litigation, Philippa Casey and Miles Robinson; in finance, Nicholas Kynoch; and in real estate, Nick Marshall.



UK firm Dundas & Wilson has hired corporate recovery partner John Verrill for its London office from Lawrence Graham.



Winckworth Sherwood has recruited three partners. David von Hagen joins from Taylor Walton to become head of employment, while Sara Hanrahan leaves Macfarlanes to expand the planning team. Sole practitioner James Lynas joins the employment team.



IBB Solicitors in Uxbridge recruits Andrew James from BP Collins to become head of commercial.



Derbyshire firm Elliot Mather promotes Fred Parkinson to lead its elder law and probate department.



Mike Taylor and Roger Wilson become partners at Shacklocks after the Nottinghamshire practice acquired their firm, Walker Terry & Wilson. Sally Lamb also moves across as an assistant.





New firms



Quentin Bargate, principal of Quentin Bargate & Co, has joined forces with Constant & Constant partner Andrew Murray to form a business law firm in the City, Bargate Murray.



Family law specialists Celia Charlton and Samantha Cook leave Howard & Over in Plymouth to start their own firm, C&C Family Law.





Associates/Assistants



Kicking off in the north-west, Eversheds hires eight for its Manchester office. The real estate team welcomes six assistants: Neil Russell (from Browne Jacobson), Nazia Hussain (from James & Charles Dodd), Meinir Evans (from Clifford Chance), Jonathan Byrom (from DWF), Steven Burnett (from Brabners Chaffe Street) and Harvey Davies (from Linklaters). Associate Jeremy Riley leaves Beachcroft in London to join the insurance litigation team, while Nicola Linney leaves DLA Piper to become an assistant in the technology/commercial IT team.



Jennifer Clark leaves Ricksons in Preston to become a commercial property associate at Liverpool firm Black Norman.



East Lancashire-based Haworth & Nuttall hires Shahin Akhtar as a commercial property and corporate law associate from Dootsons in Leigh.



Manchester firm MPH promotes Linden Heron (employers liability and industrial disease) and Mark Havenhand (clinical negligence) to associate.



Still in the north-west, Stuart Barton joins Garstangs in Bolton as an assistant in the family department from Gregory Abrams Davidson in Liverpool.



Julia Hyatt (civil litigation) and Jane Goodier (criminal law) join Farleys’ Blackburn and Accrington offices respectively, after completing their training contracts.



On the other side of the Pennines, the Leeds office of Eversheds welcomes David Cunningham as an IT law associate and Elaine Fletcher as a senior associate in data protection law. They join from national firms DLA Piper and Addleshaw Goddard respectively.



Lisa Russell leaves Penn Legal in London to move to McCormicks’ Harrogate office as an assistant in the family team.



Ben Jackson joins Last Cawthra Feather’s Bradford office as an assistant in corporate, having completed his training at Jordans in Wakefield.



Moving south, Black Country-based Waldrons sees conveyancing manager Belinda Hill qualify as a solicitor while Jane Lewis joins the company and commercial property law team after completing her training contract with the firm.



BP Collins in Gerrards Cross recruits Andrew Hayward from Rollingsons in London as an employment associate.



Assistant Kate Watchorn leaves Eversheds to join Denton Wilde Sapte’s planning and public law team in the City.

Yasmin Tayob joins Brighton firm Howlett Clarke as an employment law associate. She was previously at Geoffrey Leaver in Milton Keynes.



Assistant Jonathan Friend moves to the civil litigation team at Burt Brill & Cardens in Brighton from Beviss & Beckingsale in Honiton in Devon.



Liz Fisher moves from Lanyon Bowdler in Shrewsbury to Lamb Brooks in Basingstoke as an assistant in commercial and property litigation.



Rickerbys in Cheltenham recruits Frank Smith as an assistant in the agricultural property team from Wragge & Co

in Birmingham.



TLT’s Bristol office recruits four assistants: Joanne Price (banking and finance litigation) from Eversheds; Siobhan Fitzgerald (employment) from Bond Pearce; Helen Thomas (commercial) from Geldards; and Alexandra Holsgrave-Jones (commercial property) from Wright Hassall.
