Few celebrity families are as effortlessly glamorous and brand-savvy as the Beckhams. So it is unfortunate that Harper of that ilk has suffered a frankly lowering setback in her budding career as a beauty entrepreneur.
Unfortunately, Harper (pictured) shares her moniker with a manufacturer of, er, brooms and brushes. Hence, she has reportedly been refused initial trade mark approval in the US for her planned beauty brand, Hiku By Harper.

According to IP firm Marks & Clerk, ‘Harper’ is already trade marked for cleaning products including brooms and ‘scrubbing brushes’. ‘Haiku’, meanwhile, is registered within fragrance and toiletry categories.
Fortunately, all is not lost. ‘The US is a first to use territory so it may not be the end of the road for Harper,’ says Marks & Clerk. ‘There are often many options to overcome examiner’s objections, but as you can imagine, there are also many variables to consider.’
One thing is certain – the Beckhams can certainly afford very good IP lawyers.
