Fancy giving sailing a try? Or, if you’re already the nautical type, getting to know the Law Society Yacht Club? The club’s next event is a social day on the water at the picturesque Seaview Sailing Club on the Isle of Wight on Sunday 10 September.

The club will have use of three Mermaid classic yachts for the day and we hope to do some general sailing, perhaps culminating in a not-too-serious race.

The Mermaids are one-design racing keelboats which have raced in the Solent for more than 100 years. They’re easy to handle for beginners and have lots of ropes to tweak for the more advanced.

The event is a great opportunity for new club members to get to know those who have been around a bit longer. Non-sailing partners and family members are welcome to attend the clubhouse where lunch and drinks are available. Cost per member is £65. Anyone (either a member or someone who wishes to join the LSYC) interested in taking part should email secretary@lawsocyc.org.uk.

The club is also looking for a couple of keen crew for a cross-channel/Scillies cruise in October. Watch this space...
