An eventful two-handed cruise down the English Channel rounded off an activity-packed 2023 for the Law Society Yacht Club.

An escort of dolphins accompanied club commodore Nick Lightbody and Gazette news editor Michael Cross (pictured with the golden shark burgee) from the Solent to off Lands End, where thick fog forced a diversion to Newlyn. Other challenges included making running repairs to the borrowed Beneteau 35’s plumbing, steering and navigation equipment, and dodging an October gale.

Plans for 2024 include an early season cross-channel cruise, a possible entry in the round-the-island race and a day’s dinghy sailing. The club welcomes sailors of all levels of ability with a connection to the legal profession. For more information see www.lawsocyc.org.uk.
