Chancery Lane is all very jolly when it’s 30 degrees in the shade, but on the whole Obiter would rather be sailing. So we confess to a little envy at news of the Law Society Yacht Club’s latest triumph. It took second place overall in a team racing event at Sea View Yacht Club on the Isle of Wight, sailing the club’s classic Mermaid half-deckers.

The Society had three boats in the event, skippered by Nick Lightbody, Amber Brown and Ben Holden. It was up against teams from The Bar Yacht Club, Sea View Yacht Club and Lloyds of London Yacht Club, who came first overall.

The Law Society Yacht Club is always on the lookout for new members, whether solicitors, legal executives, paralegals, trainees or families. Those interested should contact the secretary: or visit
