Individual use rather than use embedded in systems is the issue. Skilled craftsmen built the first cars using techniques and concepts from carriage making but with many innovative techniques, tools and materials. That’s where we are today with legal AI. When (literally) the shape of the product was stabilised it was possible to innovate and rationalise its production (Ford’s production line). At this stage it would have been unimaginable for an individual workman to deviate from the established procedure, tools and so forth.
Nowadays cars are made by robots.
We need to leverage the existing knowledge of experienced lawyers to crystallise it in new production methods for legal services. The ethics should be built in to the approved processes.
I’m afraid this does not bode well for young lawyers.
