David please stop reading the Daily Mail it is not good for your health and does not understand the concept of balanced reporting.The latest accounts show that £1.2 billion was spent on claims and costs which I believe is about 1% of the total budget.That figure has remained consistent for many years.The £22 billion figure relates to claims notified but not resolved and to cases which may or may not be brought in coming years.Yes thats right they are utter garbage and meaningless.I could go on about what is a notified claim and what percentage succeed, why there was a large rise in reported claims prior to LASPO and the fact that any projected figures probably do not take account of reductions in costs as a result of scrapping success fees and limiting recovery of ATE etc but I cannot be bothered.
