My understanding is that GPs are self-employed, not state employees, and that their practices are run as businesses. They fund their professional negligence insurance as an expense of their business.

Solicitors in private practice are self-employed and also have to run their practices as businesses. Professional negligence is a necessary expense of their business.

I wait with bated breath for the government to announce that it will be funding our PII.
