Anon 1506, Can you entertain the idea that perhaps it would be sensible to impose sentences with some chance of success?The problem is giving everyone suspended sentences and complex orders means they all eventually end up in prison - at tax payers expense (which i can assure you is far more expensive than a trip to Majorca). If those sentences weren't available, those people would be dealt with by simpler non-custodial sentences which they could comply with and save us all a load of money. Be authoritarian for the sake of it if you want but be ready to volunteer to pay a lot more tax.
By the way we didnt have access to suspended sentences, nor restraining orders, nor DVPOs, nor CPNs a few years ago and somehow we managed just fine!
