Watching Wimbledon made me wonder whether you can say that art and beauty have a place in the law.

Beauty is not easy to define. But you know it when you see it. Roger Federer stroking a backhand winner, Ronnie Sullivan cueing, Alastair Cook driving: all have it. When they are in the zone, there is an intimacy between the artist and their art. They are at one.

So it is for me when I witness the intellectual firepower, majestic use of language and penetrating cunning of a top lawyer in action. It’s a joy to watch. It’s pure artistry.
