I note that the Legal Services Consumer Panel is suggesting that ‘self-lawyering’ is a way forward in our brave new world. I think that this is an avenue to be explored. I am therefore recommending to Law Society Council that we deduct from the annual fee levied by the Legal Services Board any legal costs incurred by the board.

I will be suggesting that the board self-lawyer, and therefore become more empowered and have greater access to redress, as the panel would have it. The LSB should seek alternatives to lawyers, explore technology-enabled DIY solutions and unbundled provisions, and use new unregulated entrants to the market.
