I wish former District Judge JM Griffiths luck in his dealings with the SRA.

My experience was, and I believe it was not unique, that after retiring at the end of 2011 my name was, without notice, removed from the roll and then, six months later, without prior notice, restored to the roll.

Having been made aware of all this, I approached the SRA for an explanation but its view was that it really did not matter very much and there was no cause for concern on my part.

More to the point, however, was that it was quite unable to inform me of my status for the six months during which my name was not on the roll or of the possible consequences of describing myself as a retired solicitor during this period.
