Registered Charity No: 213364 (England & Wales).

We formed in 1918, to support the families of those soldiers killed in the Great War, later adding veterans and retired nursing staff to those we help.

How do we help now? Following retirement, illness or bereavement, many people need a renewed purpose in life, and many more have a strong desire to continue serving their country.

As a charity with over 100 years of experience, we strongly believe that helping people fulfil a need is not just about giving them the tools to do this, but about them playing an active role in the process too.

We enable this need through our volunteer programme, based on the principle of ‘helping people, to help themselves, by helping others’. This matches our volunteers (called Remembrance Workers in recognition of our origin) mainly to hospitals and hospices, but also to community organisations, where they deliver essential volunteer services, such as feeding patients, assisting visitors, gardening, working in food banks, and tending war graves,

Their tasks may vary, but the common thread is that they are all valued enormously by those they serve, and the organisations in which they serve. We are so proud of them – each and every one.

We rely entirely on private donations. Legacies are vital in ensuring we can continue to support our Remembrance Workers, and we are grateful for your consideration. Please do contact us if you would like to know a little more about what we do.
