While they are heralded for being ‘more innovative’ and providing the ‘solutions clients need’, your news item on the ‘relaunch’ of alternative business structures concludes with the number registered in 2017 – five. Is this glacial progress due to the fundamental conflict between a lawyer’s idea of a profession and services clustered in an ABS?

I would rather policy, time and energy were devoted to the greatest threat to a numerous, robust and independent legal profession – namely the savage, unrelenting cuts to legal aid and the exclusion of millions from access to justice.
