In its first round of high-calibre lateral hires this year, McCarthy Denning has welcomed three new partners.

Partners Dawn Osborne and David Sant have joined the intellectual property (IP) team and partner Jon Yorke will work across the firm’s corporate and insurance teams.

Dawn Osborne’s extensive expertise covers trademarks, copyright, designs, internet law, confidentiality and privacy. She is a board member of the Federation Against Software Theft (FAST) and head of FAST Legal Advisory Group (FLAG) their legal action group, a qualified CI Arb Mediator and an Internal Trademark Association (INTA) Neutral. She has over 25 years’ experience as an IP lawyer, having qualified at Denton Hall and has been a partner for over fifteen years in top tier IP boutique firms. She is primarily involved in litigation, advice and mediation. Dawn has also been consistently ranked in the Legal 500 for her IP work.

With almost 30 years’ experience in IP at, amongst other firms, CMS Cameron McKenna, Taylor Wessing and Bird and Bird, David Sant specialises in patents, especially disputes, litigation and arbitration, but also transactional, prosecution and licensing work. He worked for many years at the European Patent Office (EPO), and, unusually for a UK lawyer, has experience on the EPO’s Opposition Division. A major component of David’s practice in recent years has been in standard essential patents (SEPs) and FRAND disputes, on the interface between IP and competition law, in relation to cellular technologies.

Jon Yorke is a well-known insolvency and restructuring lawyer, joining McCarthy Denning from Cooley LLP. He specialises in the financial services sector particularly in the insurance industry but also has a wide range of experience in other industries. Jon has been involved with many innovative restructuring techniques and strategies to assist clients in achieving optimal outcomes. He works with everyone involved in the restructuring sector from investors, creditors, banks and insolvency practitioners to directors and corporates who are experiencing financial difficulty. He frequently acts in conflict situations when he is recommended by other law firms and by insolvency practitioners.

Warren Wooldridge, co-founder and CEO of McCarthy Denning, commented:

We would like to welcome Dawn, David and Jon who are all highly-experienced lawyers with market leading credentials. They will work closely with our existing team to bolster our IP, Corporate and Insurance practices.

2019 is an exciting year for McCarthy Denning and we have a renewed focus on strengthening our existing presence in the legal market through high-calibre recruits, especially now that we have relocated to a larger and more contemporary office space to accommodate such growth.’
