The consumer services arm of national firm Shoosmiths has joined 125 firms that have signed up with legal price comparison website Wigster, which launched at the start of this month.

Access Legal from Shoosmiths is the biggest firm to sign up to the comparison site so far, with ‘a couple of big firms waiting in the wings’, according to Wigster managing director Nick Miller.

Miller, who practised for 22 years as a high street practitioner, said two or three firms are joining the site every day since the launch.

On wigster.com, consumers select the legal service they require, then answer a series of related questions, before they are presented with price comparisons from firms signed up to use the site.

Firms can register on Wigster for free, but the site charges a referral fee for work obtained through it. Wigster began a national TV advertising campaign on 8 November, and is backed by private equity funds.

Judith Dorkins, head of consumer services at Access Legal, said: ‘Seeking legal advice is often a daunting prospect for consumers, so we welcome anything that offers them access to legal advice in a straightforward way.

‘We believe strongly that people with legal needs – whether routine or life-changing – should be no more than a phone call or a mouse click away from specialist advice. A Wigster listing offers another simple, clear route to that advice.’

Shoosmiths launched Access Legal in February. It provides consumer legal advice on: conveyancing; employment law; legal disputes; medical negligence; motoring law; personal injury; and wills, family and wealth.
