Labour peace has broken out at Legalease, Obiter is pleased to report. Striking workers – and their union Unite – have got what they wanted.
About 60 staff at the Legal 500 publisher downed quills over pay more than a fortnight ago. Researchers, senior researchers and deputy editors were offered a 3.4% pay rise, but demanded a flat £2,000 increase to ensure that the lowest-paid workers receive a bigger jump. They have now got their money – and were due back in the office as the Gazette went to press.
‘We have made progress over the last couple of days and have now resolved the dispute, having offered to meet our striking employees’ request for a £2,000 pay increase,’ said chief executive Tim Wakefield. ‘We do not intend to comment further.’
A union rep said: ‘We are glad to have resolved this dispute and secured a fair pay increase for the research team. We now look forward to returning to work and rebuilding our working relationship with management.’
