Ray Werbicki: joins US firm Steptoe & Johnson

The US firms are on the march once again in the City.

Ray Werbicki, head of international arbitration at Masons, has joined US firm Steptoe & Johnson.


Ed Lukins, previously head of private equity at Simmons & Simmons, has moved to the London office of US firm Morrison & Foerster.


Six new partners promoted at US/UK firm Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw in the City: Bruce Bloomingdale (finance), James Dodsworth (real estate), Louise Hobbs (employment), Tim Nosworthy (corporate), Michael Wallin (corporate) and Stephen Woodward (litigation and dispute resolution).


Property finance partner William Greig joins Field Fisher Waterhouse from Birmingham and London firm Wragge & Co. Martin Smith moves to the firm’s public and regulatory law group as a partner from Clifford Chance, where he was a senior associate and worked on the Hutton Inquiry.



Claire Belringer: partner promotion at Rickerbys

SJ Berwin has strengthened its commercial litigation team by hiring IT and telecoms specialist Michael Bywell from DLA.

Financial services partner Jonathan Denton joins the banking and finance team at Salans from Wragge & Co.


Memery Crystal has bolstered its commercial property team with the arrival of three partners from Park Nelson: Eugene O’Keeffe, Colm Flood and Ruth Deehan.


Guy Hurst moves from Withers to the property department at Dawsons.


In Hertford, family law specialist Olive McCarthy has been promoted to partner at Breeze & Wyles.

Richard Morgan has joined the litigation department of Harrison Clark in Worcester from Hulme & Co.

Residential property specialist Claire Belringer has been promoted to partner at Cheltenham firm Rickerbys. Her appointment brings the number of partners to 19.


Oxford firm Marshall & Galpin promotes three to partner: Ian Carrier (litigation), Mark Phillips (family) and Heather Redman (trusts and probate). Clinical negligence specialist Richard Coleman joins as an associate from Reading firm Boyes Turner.

Two partners are promoted at Manchester firm JMW: Isaac Mirza (defence criminal advocacy) and Karen Green (children and divorce law).


In Carlisle, Bob Elliott becomes head of commercial disputes at Baines Wilson after leaving Newcastle-based Ward Hadaway.

Associates/Assistants

Two new associates for Wragge & Co’s real estate team: David Sanson joins the London office from Clifford Chance, while Clare Regan moves to Birmingham from City firm Nabarro Nathanson.


David Langford, previously at Memery Crystal, has joined the company/commercial team at Howard Kennedy as an assistant.


Four new associates have been promoted at Kerman & Co in London: Michael Blachford and Simon Robinson (property), Greg Cooper (corporate) and John Evans (litigation). Assistant solicitor Tatiana Nevard joins the corporate team from City firm Denton Wilde Sapte.


Banking litigation specialist Wendy Rainbow has joined Watford firm Matthew Arnold & Baldwin from HSBC’s group legal litigation department as an assistant.


On the south coast, barrister Adrian Shipwright joins the tax team at Southampton’s Moore & Blatch from Pump Court Tax Chambers in London.


Two assistants for Needham & Janes in Birmingham: Carla MacLeod qualifies into the family law department, while David Libera joins the corporate finance team from the Wilkes Partnership.


Dispute resolution assistant Liz Fisher has joined the Shrewsbury office of Lanyon Bowdler, having previously been at Underhill Langley & Wright in Wolverhampton.

In the north-west, Blackburn firm Forbes has appointed Helen Byrne to its employment team after she qualified at Leeds firm Morrish & Co.

Stockport-based Slater Heelis Collier Littler has hired Miriam Wood, previously at Hammonds Direct, for its residential conveyancing team.
