I don’t think the minimum wage thing is inaccurate. A good friend of mine was a senior junior doing criminal defence work up and down the country. After chambers expenses and accounting for travel and prep, on her account she would have earned more putting in all of those hours at McDonalds.

She left the Bar two years ago and now sells her own paintings. It doesn’t pay as much, but then again, it doesn’t demand 70 hours a week and she no longer has sleepless nights.

She was exceptionally good as well. It’s the Bar’s loss.
