Like another here, I find the proliferation of legal executive titles unclear, imagine for the public., I don't know if a new job title for paralegals is a good or bad thing. I suspect it's partly related to the (IIRC) fact that the majority of CILEX members are paralegals. Most of whom seek to qualify as solicitors but couldn't get a training contract, so use it as relevant experience. Good luck to them. The legal executive route is likely to dwindle to redundancy in future, by legal market forces, as its non-University background USP has been overtaken by Solicitor Apprencticeship and the SQE. The SRA are taking over CILEX regulation. Wouldn't the simple and clearest answer be to grandfather all existing legal executives as solicitors (subject to criteria and if needed assessment), close the legal executive route and paralegals, would remain regulated by the SRA if they work in a SRA regulated law firm.
