‘AI will kill an independent legal profession’ is perhaps a better headline.

Whether we are debating AI, ‘malicious actors’ corrupting software as alleged in the Post Office Scandal, or broken IT in general, the legal profession must be at the centre of the AI/IT debate. It must also have the confidence to challenge the rampant hype which exists in the law tech sector.

A new threat is also emerging from the shadows. It is suggested by a prominent Labour think tank that we should all embrace the concept of compulsory digital ID cards supplied by the state.

Sorry although the above threat has emerged from the shadows in the context of digitalisation of conveyancing, the wider ramifications are terrifying.

So the stakes are high. Personally I do not wish the U.K. to mimic states like China who track each citizen’s movements by similar technology.
