1.59pm - The Competitions & Markets Authority investigation in 2015 found that it added £3 per policy.... the average policy in 2015 was £652 pa. so it represented about 0.46% of the average policy.

If you strip out the commissions that motor insurers funnel out of credit hire referrals or even those that own their own CH companies, which they will have you believe goes back into reducing the overall cost of insurers (yeah right), then its less.

To add "guaranteed hire car" to your own policy is circa £25 pa. Which is simply extra money for insurance companies over and above the income generated from referring you on a CHO anyway.

You can see how this is all one way traffic in recent years....
