We will, of course, have to wait for the revisions to AML regulations, but it seems likely that the government’s focus will be on (1) enabling and encouraging the use of digital ID and verification (2) clarifying where digital processes can replace manual steps (3) ensuring that reforms do not unintentionally weaken the UK’s AML regime. The 2025 Legal Sector Affinity Group AML guidance welcomes the use of digital verification tools. It seems that practices which do not currently have such a solution will be further encouraged to adopt one to streamline their business processes - as it is unlikely that CDD and EDD will be ‘watered down.'
