I'm sure the appointed person would be very good in a commercial role in business.

This is a profession.

And it's a profession which works better without conventional management. Conventional management is a mix of b/s faddism and top-down paternalism. It is designed to subjugate docile, frightened, un-professional people. We don’t need it.

This appointment is a calculated insult. You cannot manage that which you do not understand and have not experienced. Doh. Ideally, the person appointed would be a qualified solicitor, would have worked in private practice (and ideally not just with a High Street firm), would have worked in-house and in a govt dept.

To manage any sector or department, you must know more about it than the people you’re managing. Otherwise, forget it.

This is analogous to appointing a computer programmer to head up the FA.

The management disease continues.

One marvels at the mindset of the muppets who prepared the job spec for this position.
