If there is no corroborative evidence, and if the suspect denies the allegations (either denying that intercourse took place, or asserting that it was with consent), then it seems to me that the alleged victim's credibility should indeed be critical to assessing whether to prosecute. If the alleged victim is not credible, then no jury should convict, unless we think that any woman should be able to point at any man and say, "He raped me," for a conviction to result.
