I think most advocates for chancel repair care about maintaining beautiful heritage buildings, as opposed to an entitled church and believers wanting it. Not many (if any) churches have registered a notice on title. In any event, most vibrant churches seem to now be in warehouses, industrial units, cinemas, old ambulance stations etc.
I agree with many comments that this is mainly a legislation issue and do not think a well funded CofE would take issue with abolishing chancel repair.
Praying for revival in the UK and a reversal of these beautiful spaces slowly becoming derelict or quirky homes for one wealthy family, and instead being full of worshippers (and self funded)!
