This is absolute nonsense. Why do they regulators use this as some sort of stick against solicitors and yet in the same breathe ignore £64m Axiom.Ince debacle. Yes let's continue to deflect attention from the real issues! At the end of the day, if the banks undertook their responsibilities ,we would have nothing to report at our end. The banks know where the funds are and have the forensic accountancy skills required to ascertain the real source thereof. The burden on residential conveyancers in respect of AML is unbearable and frankly the regulators have no idea of the administrative burden these requirements bring to the small high street practice. If I were to charge for the hours spent on.source of funds on some files, most of my fixed fees would be swallowed up! Most residential conveyancers are scared of their own shadows so I reject the inference in the article that we are paying scant regard to our obligations.
