I ask this question as I am genuinely perplexed. Many of you will recognise my name; I hope in general my posts are reasonable and respectful to all and certainly not discriminatory.

But I read in the above article that cases have been delayed because interpreters attending have been of the "wrong gender". Am I missing something? Translation is surely an objective undertaking practised by experts, in which the gender or views or any other attribute or characteristic of the translator are immaterial.

Are advocates (be they prosecution or defence) now taken objection on points of gender, or seeking to clarify what a court expert identifies as? Wherein lies the problem?

If someone can elucidate without causing offence (which should surely be possible) I would be grateful.
