I have today lodged an FOI request asking for details of how many JPs currently sitting have criminal convictons and what categories those convictions fall into - I'll post the response in due course.
I predict those who think that those on the Bench are beyond all reproach are going to be shocked to realise they're probably sitting next to someone on the Bench who is really no better than the one in the Dock lol!
Takes one to know one as they say.
And before you all start reaching for your keyboards to preach fire and brimstone just bear in mind it's only four months ago one JP was convicted of firearms offences in Bristol.

But there is also a serious point here, sitting in judgement of ones peers must involve all shades of the community in order to command its respect - including those who have strayed in the past into criminality but have since learnt their lesson and made valuable contributions to their communities.
