Does Rupert Jackson not see the irony of the fact that, in addition to six inches of White Book, we now have a two-inch thick book on ADR? This "pledge" does no more than demonstrate that mediation has become a very expensive end in itself.

Before anyone ever came up with the idea of "ADR", most cases settled through a process of simple negotiation. The very basic skill of picking up the phone and negotiating with the other side has been lost.
