I believe our courts do have such powers. I can recall a young teenage brat of a client who got up to all sorts of mischief. His mother was dragged before the magistrates' court each time. So the powers exist, unless of course under the HRA they have been revoked. Right to a family life? She probably wished that she had never had one! She had even less control over him than we seem to have over our own Law Society and its errant ways. All it takes is a good short sharp shock, but it has to be administered immediately and to exceed any pleasure or benefit derived from the offence. It worked with my kids anyway and their behaviour ever since has been exemplary and we are the best of friends.
