Good afternoon, Anon 12.07. Whilst your comment might seem appealing to begin with, in fact it contains a fundamental problem. Legal Aid is also taxpayers' money. Daily (at least at the moment), it is used to challenge the taxpayers' representative (the Government) or the taxpayer-funded prosecutors (in criminal cases). So unless we are going to prohibit taxpayer funds being used to challenge other taxpayer-funded bodies/actions, then it seems as if perhaps those two charities are actually fulfilling their function and a useful role: holding authority to acount?
