Ruggie's work to create a framework for business and human rights is ground breaking. It's implications are beginning to be implemented by international companies when considering CSR and go alongside sustainable development considerations currently represented in ISO14000 which is under development.
Both will become increasingly relevant for international trade and within 2 decades will become part of domestic legislation in some form.
The "business as usual" attitude is of itself not a sustainable strategy.
