In family law LIP are a disaster. Small example which I'm sure everybody here encounters. I represented a guy who has previously been a LIP. As a result of him being so 3 days in the High Court had been allocated. As we arrived there - me and the barrister, the whole thing was over in a day.
The problem of LIP is double edge sword. Its bad for the legal system from reasons all here mentioned and its also bad for the LIP. The idea that LIP is saving money is wrong as they often lose money in the court as a result of incorrect negotiations and arguments. At the end of the day, the judge is bound by the law. Even if they want to give the LIP their wish, they cant. For example - costs in family law. Children proceedings under section 8 usually don't provide for them. The LIP gets even more annoyed which makes them elongate the proceedings even more as they don't understand that. If the people high above want to really save money then they better computerize the court. That will really help LIP (not to mention us0. For example, they wouldn't come to court to find out decisions, get orders, check the progress of the case and so on.
