People are cross with the Co-op for many reasons. The slanderous PR guff when they launched and suggested that legal advisors with a few weeks training could advise on the law better than a qualified solicitor; the fact they managed to get a legal aid franchise for family law despite bidding part way through a contract, the sales tactics of their probate salesmen who push recently bereaved people into buying expensive "packages" and over-priced legal fees and the general cheapening of the profession.

However, what people are really, really upset about is that the millions of pounds of work the Co-op has acquired has been taken from local firms and poured into a giant black hole along with the rest of the group's money. £33million is equivolent to the revenues of a great number of high st firms that have gone bust in recent years, yet the Co-op can buy up all that work, lose £22million and still be supported by the Group.

It is incompetence of the highest order and we witness firms going bust every week only to be replaced by this reckless shower who will no doubt need the biggest bail out the profession has ever seen when it all comes crashing down in a few months time.

We will all pay for this somehow.
