"One of the symptoms of approaching nervous breakdown is the belief that one's work is terribly important, and that to take a holiday would bring all kinds of disaster. If I were a medical man, I should prescribe a holiday to any patient who considered his work important." - Bertrand Russell

It is not difficult, I am a partner in a 5 partner High Street firm and I am not arrogant enough to think I alone can provide a good quality service to my clients. If your colleagues can't cover for you ask yourself why? Is it because they are too busy? Then look for temporary cover/additional staff. If they are not skilled enough, up skill them or hire people with the right skills (see the Troubleshooter last night and Jonathon Warburton's advice on hiring people who are better than you). Most of your colleagues/employees are thinking like this even if you are not.

David - my training principal said exactly the same thing to me. "If one can't do the job routinely between 9-5 then he either has too much work or is not doing it properly in the first place". He was a crime duty sol. and is enjoying an early retirement on his sailing boat.
