PCS understands that the response to the Consultation on LLC is currently being drafted. It would appear that Govt wish to proceed in spite of the sheer weight of opposition. It would also appear that the Government are seeking to privatise LR, again, in the face of huge opposition from a broad coalition of interested parties, including LS, Search Providers, trades unions and industry experts, such as John Manthorpe. This, coupled with LR Board plans to dumb down the registration process, which could see massive job losses and office closures, has led us to calling two days strike action on 14 & 15 May. This represents the mere start of our campaign and we are calling on support from all who care about the future of conveyancing and the valuable, secure and impartial role played by LR. All of this is at risk, from an obvious desire to make a quick buck and passing yet another public asset into private pockets. I will be writing to various industry professionals tomorrow, citing more detailed reasons for everyone to combine efforts to save HM Land Registry.
