So far as I am concerned, the judges made their bed, they can lie in it.

They published "position statements" whittering on about Orwellian sounding Self-Representing Litigants. They go on about pro-bono etc. They never bothered to stand up to the Government in the past and say "this will not work".

So instead of first directions appointments in private law cases, followed by - if necessary - appointments of experts and finding of fact hearings, they are going to get:-

* Jeremy Kyle esque accusations being made about "well I know her new fella is a druggie"
* simple directions appointments that would take thirty minutes between solicitors in the court waiting room thrashing it out and five minutes in court will now be 45 minutes of "I'm not agreeing to that, why should she get what she wants".
* Hours spent with the Respondent's mother ignoring the District Judge and talking over her whilst she explains that there is a conspiracy going on at the Local Authority / a partner in the Applicant's solicitors whose used to work for the firm where the Respondent's daughter is a typist / CAFCASS are all freemasons / the Law Society refuses to accept that the witness statement is a fraud and the father should be imprisoned, etc.
* Ridiculous applications for costs inter partes
* Applications for enforcement for breach of contact orders because the child was sick and couldn't come - but it dunt say that in the order dus it, and why should the b**ch get it all her way.
