You people who think that this compensation is a good thing are absolute idiots. This will go one of two ways - (1) it will be less safe to fly with airlines rushing to get the aircraft out on time; or the more likely, (2) ticket prices will go through the roof.
Have you thought about the impact on the global industry? Airlines will go bust, luggage companies will be out of business because nobody will be able to afford to go on holiday with the inflated prices, hotels will go bust, aircraft part supplies will go bust, and most importantly I hope Mr Huzar and Bott & Co are proud of themselves putting thousands of people out of a job.
Technical faults are inherent in the industry of course they happen but the airlines cannot prevent that and cannot be expected to do so either. The maintenance regimes are tremendously detailed with several checks pre-flight, weekly, monthly, and yearly from a 1A check to a 4C.
I put it to all of you who think that this is good...what more can the airlines do to prevent this? The maintenance is thoroughly investigated with the maintenance schedules agreed between the CAA, the aircraft manufacturer (Airbus/Boeing) and the airlines themselves to make these aircraft SAFE. If you maintain the aircraft as instructed by the aircraft manufacture and you go above and beyond to keep the aircraft in top condition as best you can all of the time, the industry is heavily regulated, then what more can the airlines do?
The airlines inspect the aircraft prior to each and every flight but cannot be expected to open up the engine cowls and the aircraft body to inspect each every intricate component prior to each and every flight - you'd be delayed for weeks. Technical problems happen the same as your car suffers technical problem, aircraft techs may be more frequent but understandably - they fly at 30,000ft under an immense amount of pressure and there are thousands of complex intricate components and it’s not quite as easy as your tiny brains think it is. So next time my car has a 'technical fault' should I go to the garage and ask for compensation?
Many of you suggest airlines have standby unit which nearly all do. However you expect six or seven standby units. Do you have idea how much an aircraft costs? $150 million minimum per aircraft! So next time your Ford Fiesta breaks down I expect you to have either another one in the garage or with the money were talking I actually expect a Ferrari or Bentley. Do you have any understanding of the cost of a sub charter (borrow someone else aeroplane for you idiots). £70,000
That’s just the aircraft, an approximate cost of £1 million per year to have the aircraft crewed. You need to consider the costs that the airlines suffer already. A delay costs the airline approximately £50 per minute just with it sitting on the ground.
This decision undermines the overarching principle of the Regulation – to improve passenger rights. This time in two years time you’ll be complaining that the ticket prices are too high but it’s your own fault.
