If it is appropriate in the modern era for barristers in effect to cut out solicitors when and where they can, and the nearest set to me here in Llandudno is, I believe, 50 miles away in Chester, can we ask that they do away with Joe Public having to pay for a 'junior' and a QC? Surely one, or the other, but not both? And can they be put on hourly rates please? And can we do away with the fiction that once the brief has been delivered the full fee is payable for, say, a three week trial, even if that trial folds after three days?
