Until the rules change don't act for children. Simples. Let other firm's do the hard work for a loss The suggestion that children's claims are so easy that they don not merit a success fee being applied is risible. How many children's claims go awry because of difficulties with the litigation friend? In my experience it is loads. If you act for claimant's it is a fact of life that many client's have serious social, health and financial issues which makes the job twice as hard. I empathise with my clients and do the best I can for them within the framework of the rules but I am not a social worker / probation officer and I want paying a sensible sum for my work. If it means I have to take a cut off of child's damages then so what. I got over the distasteful issue of taking money off my client's about 18 months ago when this government turned the system on its head. I don't think the reforms are working and I suspect we are an election away from further significant changes.
