The reason lawyers'r fees are high is not because they are all greedy pigs, but because the cost of complying with regulation, paying for professional insurance and meeting the overheads of their practice is high.
The regulatory burden and the insurance costs are imposed upon lawyers to protect consumers.
Either all lawyers should be free to act unregulated and uninsured, or none should, whether you call them MacKenzie Friends, or anything else. If one opts for the unregulated and uninsured model then either the current mantra about these being for the benefit of the consumer is untrue, or the consumer will suffer. You can not have it both ways.
