I do take your point and, you look like a very capable chap. That notwithstanding I still do not think this is the right step to take.

You work with patent attorneys who jealousy guard their professional titles, we as a profession are open to a more diverse range of undergraduate degrees. They will not be changing their entry requirements and, frankly why should we ?

I worked in house with one of the "Big 4" global business advisors within their Actuarial team. The Actuarial Profession is far harder to qualify into and they would not dream of lowering these standards ( pass marks of about 25-30 %) . This means there are lots of capable , employed but non qualified Actuaries who strive for years, without qualifying and, as such the Actuarial title is held in high esteem.

Whilst I accept our career bottleneck is at a different juncture and results from a different hurdle I still think (that like other Professions) we should be able set high standards and ensure these are maintained.

It is not clear whether these are just proposals under the SRA Training Regulations 2014 or they have been given the greenlight already. The call to "consult properly" suggests we will be given a chance to express our views and this is not a "fait accompli". I certainly hope we as a Profession will be asked their thoughts over such a dramatic change.
