Facts:
1... The modern office cannot afford to take on legal aid work as the ordinary overheads and staff requirements cost more than legal aid rates will pay.
2. Legal id is part of the social structure and like the NHS and administration of justice etc. is subject to stringent cost supervision and liable to budget cuts.
3. The only way to have a Legal Aid system is to have one which is part of the social structure with state employed legal personnel. The alternative is for the government to pay every firm which undertakes legal aid work a contribution towards the expenses of running that firm.
4. I spent most of my working life after admission working in a socially deprived area. In a good year I made £300 per week. One year I made £120 per week. I chose my life. I enjoyed my life. But I did so in thee knowledge that my lifestyle would be circumscribed by my income.
I know some of you will also share my views but I accept there is no reason, other than a social conscience why others should do so.
